The recent declaration by the World Health Assembly (16)
asking all member states to integrate palliative care with
routine health care comes as a major tool in advocacy and
hopefully will boost the current efforts. l
Dr MR Rajagopal is the Director of the WHO Collaborating
Centre for Policy and Training on Access to Pain Relief and the
Founder-Chairman of Pallium India.
He has contributed significantly to the Amendment of India's
NDPS Act in 2014, the development of the Kerala
Government's policy on Palliative Care and Government of
India's National Palliative Care Strategy in 2012.
In 2014, Human Rights Watch honoured Dr Rajagopal with
the Alison Des Forges Award for Extraordinary Activism.
