48 City Living France has some wonderful cities to live in or in which to
invest. Here we share two of our all time favourites
A
RTISTIC, CULTURAL,
stylish and romantic
- Paris never goes out
of fashion. Airbnb's
most popular city
destination, it is only a few hours
away from the UK by train or
plane. It's also 30% cheaper
than London, a lot more compact
and you can still get a centrally
located pied-à-terre there for less
than €500,000.
There are plenty of choices
for a Parisian pad so where best
to buy?
Popular central areas are
the Bastille, Marais and the Left
Bank's Latin Quarter and St Germain, according
to Bruno Taxy
of Leggett's Paris office. "But
you can also get nice apartments in Haussmann
buildings in the 7th, 8th and 16th
arrondissements," he says. "Expect to pay €9,000 to €12,000
per m²." Whilst the lively 19th
around Père Lachaise is akin to
London's Shoreditch, around
Montmartre is more mixed, and
the area around the Gare du
Nord is on the up.
If you are taking the long
view, Bruno tips the 18th, 19th
and 20th as rising fastest from
a low base, whilst the 19th,
20th and 14th are fertile hunting grounds
for family homes.
If your budget is generous,
the 16th offers large four-bed
family apartments for €1.5 to
€1.7m. The prime areas of Paris
are Chaillot in the 16th between
the Trocadero and Place
de l'Etoile; and the 'Golden
Triangle' between the Avenues
